Q: Do linear bearings need lubrication? What is the commonly used lubricating medium?
Answer: metal linear bearings must be lubricated regularly, lubrication can reduce the friction and wear of the ball, optical shaft and jacket, reduce operating noise, and extend the service life; Only plastic self-lubricating linear bearings do not require additional lubricant refill. Commonly used lubricating media: Lithium soap-based grease (such as NLGI No. 2) is the main type, and low-viscosity lubricants can be selected for high-speed operation scenarios.
Q: What are the advantages of open linear bearings?
Answer: There is an axial slit on the jacket of open linear bearings, and the core advantage is that the mating gap can be adjusted. When the optical shaft and the bearing are too loose to fit and the accuracy is reduced, or the fit is too tight and the running lag is jammed, the bolt on the mount can be tightened and the bearing jacket can be squeezed to shrink, so as to fine-tune the mating gap between the bearing and the optical shaft to meet the needs of different working conditions.
Q: What should I pay attention to when installing linear bearings?
Answer: Focus on 3 points:
The matching optical shaft should be equipped with quenched G6 tolerance specification to ensure the accuracy of the fit;
The installation datum should be flat, and the coaxiality error between the bearing and the optical shaft should be controlled within 0.01mm to avoid stuttering or aggravated wear caused by tilted installation.
When press-fitting bearings, special tools should be used to apply evenly force, and it is forbidden to directly hit the bearing face or sealing ring to prevent damage to the components.
Q: What is the reason for the jamming or abnormal noise of linear bearings during operation?
Answer: There are 4 common causes:
Insufficient lubrication, the friction resistance between the ball and the optical shaft increases;
There are burrs, rust, or dust impurities on the surface of the optical shaft entering the bearing, scratching the balls or raceways;
The installation coaxiality error is too large, and the bearing is in oblique contact with the optical shaft.
