Introduction
Compared with traditional sliding lead screws, machine tool ball screws have significant performance advantages: First, they have high transmission efficiency. The rolling friction coefficient is extremely low, and the transmission efficiency can reach over 90%, greatly reducing machine tool energy consumption and drive load. Second, they offer high positioning accuracy. Combined with a preloading structure, axial clearance can be effectively eliminated, achieving micrometer-level precise positioning and repeatable positioning, meeting the requirements of precision machining. Third, they have a long service life. The rolling of steel balls greatly reduces wear, and the system can maintain stable operation through lubrication, resulting in a service life several times longer than that of sliding lead screws. Fourth, they have strong reversibility and can flexibly achieve both rotary-to-linear and linear-to-rotary motion modes, adapting to complex machine tool motion control scenarios.
Product Parameters
To accommodate different machine tool conditions, ball screws can be customized to meet diverse needs: classified by precision levels, ranging from C0 to C10, with C0 to C3 suitable for ultra-precision grinding machines and optical processing equipment, and C5 to C7 compatible with conventional CNC machining centers; classified by structural type, they can be internal or external circulation, with internal circulation offering a compact structure and low noise, and external circulation providing strong load capacity, suitable for heavy-duty cutting machines.

Core Advantages of Machine Lead Screw:
1.
High transmission efficiency, energy- and labor-saving: Traditional sliding lead screws rely on hard friction for transmission, which is strenuous and prone to overheating. Ball screws replace sliding with steel balls, reducing the friction coefficient to one-tenth of the original. Transmission efficiency can exceed 90%, which not only reduces the load on the machine motor but also lowers energy consumption, saving a significant amount on electricity over long-term operation. Whether it's high-speed feeding or low-speed heavy load, it can run smoothly and steadily.
2.
Accurate positioning, zero machining error: This is the machine tool's "signature skill." Ball screws can eliminate almost all axial backlash through preloading design, achieving micron-level precision in positioning and repeatability. When machining precision parts, whether performing back-and-forth cuts or multiple clamping operations, the workpiece dimensions remain precise. For operations requiring strict accuracy, like mold processing and manufacturing precision components, it ensures consistent quality.

3.
Long service life, reduced maintenance costs: Rolling friction causes minimal wear, and with a supporting lubrication system providing continuous oil supply, steel ball and raceway wear is minimized. Under normal conditions, the service life is 3-5 times that of sliding lead screws. For factories, this means less frequent downtime for screw replacement, reducing both maintenance time and costs, and improving machine tool uptime, directly enhancing production efficiency.
4.
Flexible bidirectional transmission, adapting to complex conditions: Ball screws have excellent reversibility, converting motor rotational motion into linear motion of the worktable, and vice versa, enabling linear motion to drive the screw. Whether it's the spindle feed of CNC lathes, three-axis linkage of machining centers, or specialized machines requiring reciprocating motion, ball screws can easily adapt without additional complex transmission components.
5.
Strong load capacity, reliable for heavy-duty machining: With special raceway design and material heat treatment, ball screws can withstand combined radial and axial loads. Even under heavy cutting or strong milling conditions, they won't deform or jam. Their rigidity is excellent, minimizing vibrations during machining, ensuring surface finish quality, and taking the machine's processing capabilities to the next level.
Application Scope:
Ball screws are core precision components of machine tool transmission systems. By replacing the sliding friction of traditional lead screws with rolling friction between screws, nuts, and steel balls, they efficiently convert rotational motion into linear motion. Widely compatible with CNC lathes, machining centers, milling machines, grinding machines, and other high-precision machine tools.

FAQ
1. Question: The machine tool's ball screw makes abnormal noise during operation. What could be the cause and how can it be resolved?
Answer: If lubrication is insufficient or the lubricant has deteriorated, clean the old lubricant and replace it with lithium-based grease or specialized guide rail oil according to the operating conditions. If iron filings, dust, or other foreign substances enter the raceway, disassemble the components for thorough cleaning, and check if the raceway is scratched; replace the parts if severely damaged. If the axis is misaligned during installation, recalibrate the parallelism of the screw and guide rail using a dial indicator and adjust the coaxiality of the coupling.
2. Question: During machining, the positioning accuracy of the machine tool decreases. What ball screw-related reasons could cause this?
Answer: Most likely, the following situations are the cause: First, wear on the ball screw and nut increases backlash, which can be corrected by adjusting the thickness of the double-nut shims to restore preload. Severe wear requires component replacement. Second, if the screw is bent, check for straightness and straighten it if possible; replace it if it cannot be straightened. Third, the preload has weakened; reinstall preload using methods like replacing larger-diameter balls. Preload is usually controlled at 5%-10% of the rated dynamic load.
3. Question: How should the machine tool ball screw be maintained daily to extend its service life?
Answer: For lubrication, supplement lithium-based grease every 6 months for low-speed, heavy-load conditions. For high-speed conditions, use ISO VG32-68 guide rail oil, supplied by an automatic lubrication system at regular intervals. For dust protection, install a steel strip protective cover or contact-type seal to prevent coolant and iron filings from entering. For regular checks, inspect backlash and preload every 2000 operating hours. During long-term idle periods, apply anti-rust grease and seal it.
4. Question: The machine tool ball screw stalls during operation. How should it be inspected and resolved?
Answer: First, stop the machine to check if iron filings, sludge, or other debris are blocking the nut circulation path; if so, disassemble and clean it, and check the raceway for damage. Next, check the lubrication status; if dry friction is caused by insufficient lubrication, clean off the old lubricant and reapply the appropriate lubricant. Finally, check the bearings; if the bearing housing is loose or the bearing is damaged, tighten the bolts or replace the bearing with the same model.
